"All Time Comes to an End."
- Official tagline.

On the Vestige is an upcoming 2022 American computer-animated post-apocalyptic raypunk and science fiction Western-planetary romance web television series created for Inferno Scope by Trailblazer101, who serves as the showrunner, director, writer, producer, and composer. The series is produced and distributed by Trail Blazer Studios, and is intended to be the first in a grouping of series that tell standalone stories. It stars the voices of Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonathan Banks, Audrey Wasilewski, America Ferrera, Hugh Laurie, Kristen Wiig, Steve Agee, Taika Waititi, James Earl Jones, Keith David, Frank Welker, Chris Parnell, and Lex Lang. In On the Vestige, chaotic scientist Doctor Flare creates the Inciner-8-tor robot to protect their planet, which is in a post-apocalyptic state, from an impending crisis far in the future after one of his former inventions returns to make do with the God of Time and a lingering enslavement operation that has impacts stretching across space and time.

The series entered development in July of 2017 under the title On the Trail for Trailblazer101's production company Trail Blazer Studios with a premiere on Cartoon Network in May of 2019, and was intended to serve as a spin-off of The LEGO Blazer Movie franchise and be set in an alternative post-apocalyptic future following the originally planned events for that franchise's film The LEGO Blazer Movie (2018) and its sequel. Several apocalyptic versions of characters from that franchise were set to appear in the series, headlined by the titular Trail 101, while the character of Future Trojan was intended to originate from this series' timeline, but was replaced with Chronos by March of 2018. The series moved forward by that November as a standalone production separate from The LEGO Blazer Movie after that film's sequel evolved into The LEGO Blazer Movie 2: Broken Dimensions (2021), excluding the futuristic storylines for alternate universes instead, and was set to premiere on Frick TV in 2020, with only the characters of Trail 101 and Doctor Flare remaining. The series was canceled during this time due to the connections and similarities it had with the initial plans for The LEGO Blazer Movie franchise, but it was revived in late August of 2019 and was announced by that December for Inferno Scope under a different direction utilizing the original characters and post-apocalyptic setting and future plot, while additions to the characters were made and the premiere was set by early 2020. By August of 2020, further additions were made to the characters and plot, with Chronos being re-incorporated into the story, having it be set on the planet Apokalypticore that was coined by Red Shogun, and Trail 101 being renamed to Inciner-8-tor while the series was re-titled and the voice cast was assembled with a variety of other characters. The spin-off prequel series Edge of the Reaping was announced that September when plans for the series' grouping of other similarly-set series were established along with the additional cast members and the Apokalypticore plot details.

On the Vestige is scheduled to be released on Inferno Scope and will premiere with its' first season on September 2nd, 2022, with a total of 10 episodes concluding on November 4th, 2022. A spin-off prequel television series, Edge of the Reaping, is scheduled to premiere on Inferno Scope in March of 2024, also consisting of 10 episodes, while two follow-up series are considered for development.

Synopsis[]

Once a renowned inventor, Doctor Flare is the sole hope for what's left of humanity's survival in a rotting planet dating far past the apocalypse but ever nearing the end of days. With little and uncertain time against him, the doctor creates the pyrotechnic robot Inciner-8-tor, who, with his unique set of capabilities unseen for centuries, is said to save their world from an impending crisis far in the future of their timeline that is being manipulated by a rusted invention from Flare's past which has come back to haunt him and bequeath Chronos, the God of Time, from his long-standing time captivation among this world as it nears its last seize for survival as a result of their operations' impact on the stability of planets and the flow of time that are both acting out against all that tamper with them.

Voice Cast and Characters[]

Main Characters / Protagonists[]

A robust pyrotechnic robot that was created by Doctor Flare to be the embodiment of the best parts of what remains within humanity in the desolate run-down part of the Apokalypticore that they reside on. Forged from the junk scraps of long-forgotten metallic treasured inventions from back in the day and powered by a fuel source of untapped potential, Inciner-8-tor intends to grasp on a better understanding of the human world around him and the lives that he seeks to protect with wide-eyed curiosity and risk-taking when in the face of danger.
A ravening chemical scientist and former engineer who was once widely known for his life-saving and world-changing inventions that aimed at helping others until a malfunction in the system that he wrote caused millions of innocent people to not obtain their aid in time which resulted in their deaths, and ever since he has remained in an impulsive state of mind and has become very easily hyperactive whilst securing an internal depression as he has grown older which flaws his better judgment.
A calm-minded and caringly thorough assassin who is from a distant timeline where the Apokalypticore was in a harmonious state where she grew to long for helping others until her world was disrupted and turned her and the other residents into cold survivers fending for her own right while still yearning for compassion from others that she has lost her time with. Zarnya has scoured the stretches of time in search of the god Chronos to enact vengeance after a prior skirmish she had with him that torments her soul.
A strong engineer and leader of a planetary-wide resistance from the past whose planet was wiped out by disruptions in the space-time continuum and saw her family and people enslaved under Chronos' "travelers" and was forced to watch them deteriorate by working in reverse-flowing harvesting plants that seep the soil of the planets. Dieselena established the resistance to combat the threat of time and enslavement from the oppressors and challenges technology with her engineering skills, allowing her the ability to reverse-engineer contraptions into different types of tools, but not weapons, which she resents. She is transported to the future in the hopes of discovering peace and harmony with inevitable success but is torn to realize her own failure by not being in her own timeline to prevent the actions that occur and engage in attempts with Doctor Flare to restore the timelines.
A cyborg military combatant and the commander of an elite military fleet far in the future past the apocalypse and the world's end who has seen the established planets succeding their existence and the creation of the new world, from which he led a refugee group with his lieutenant BOLT-Z to the past where they would remain in safety until the forces of Teknarius located their shelter and bombarded it. Sar-Gently is an unsteady easily-provoked and ruthless enforcer of the law and neutrality and vows to protect those that are of any lower or higher degree and is willing to put his life on the line for others so they can be safe while masking his personal feelings and desires for the better of the mission.
A lonely anthropomorphic crow who is an antique collector of fine metals that is enslaved by Chronos' forces to work in the reversal harvesting plants as a "traveler" to locate metals and a sacred artifact lost between time and the soils of planets, while her collecting skills provide her with an upper hand in the corrupt underworld of the harvests as a petty yet accomplished thief who takes out metals and other precious valuables for the better livelihood of herself and those she reaches through the Sprawling Hand that she communes with.
A beaver assistant to Doctor Flare who can survive in the hot desolate plains of the Apokalypticore planet and its fiery pits and steaming water, as his species adapted to the harsh conditions throughout the course of time and remained the sole aquatic creatures living on the planet. Flinternest operates a remote beaver dam consisting of wood and natural forest items and restricts all kinds of metals due to the atmosphere around them.

Supporting Characters[]

A robotic military aid and the lieutenant of the elite military fleet commanded by his presiding officer Sar-Gently, who found B0LT-Z's manufactured parts stuck to a colossal magnet in the cosmic junkyard of the far future and put him back together while his second half, NUT-Z, remained lost throughout time. BOLT-Z's infrastructure possesses cosmic radiation energy that is from the new world's creation, though he has no remembrance of where it originated from or how it came to power him.
A mythological deity and the Roman emperor of the Oceanitopia planet that resides within the distant reaches of time in an incursion wormhole neighboring the Apokalypticore planet and rules over his planet with a radical, enforcive and strict war-time environment ever since their livelihood and natural waterways were being torn apart and polluted by Chronos' meddling with time.
A robotic Manticore infused with temporal energy that allows it to cross timelines within its namesake Apokalypticore planet at free will and can harness any concentrated and rusted forms of metal from the earlier times to use as a source of fuel for Teknarius' operations. The Manticore was in part responsible for the deaths on Zarnya's planet and is used as a watchdog by Teknarius' encoded commands implemented within him to act out devious plots against those that oppose him. Apokalypticore is unable to disrupt Inciner-8-tor's structure from the outside, proving to bring a long-standing worthy opponent for him in his endeavors.

Antagonists[]

The second robotic half of BOLT-Z who shares his same cosmic radiation energy as a power source and whose memory database dates back to the earliest point of time in the new world before his transcendence into the prior world's timeline, flowing backward to recount where the planet went wrong as part of an endless cycle of creation, life, and death.
A rusted product of Doctor Flare's traumatic past that he created who has returned from expected destruction to haunt him in the wake of a chaotic insurgency crisis in their future.
The wrathful God of Time who harvests the remaining wheat fields of the Apokalypticore in the main timeline with a mass slave operation of "travelers" to grow his physical and psychological spears of influence across the world, while stalling against time itself for a long-awaited arrival.

Production[]

Initial work and connections[]

Trailblazer101 began developing the television series for his production company Trail Blazer Studios on July 26th, 2017, under the title On The Trail and established it as a possible futuristic continuation and spin-off LEGO series of his The LEGO Blazer Movie franchise with it featuring alternative post-apocalyptic interpretations of the characters from that franchise, such as the lead Trail 101 being a counterpart to Trail Blazer, while it was also set to further explore the origin story of the character Future Trojan, who was intended to have originated from this series' timeline in the franchise's continuity that was to be set 101 years in the future from the first film The LEGO Blazer Movie (2018), and would've carried over plot points for that film's sequel which was to further explore the post-apocalyptic future in its plot. The series' premiere was also set to begin during May of 2019 on Cartoon Network. On November 4th, 2017, the series' title was corrected by Trail as On the Trail to have it be stylized with his preference, and on November 21st, 2017, Trail was approached by iNinjago regarding the possibility of having this series feature a crossover with his series iNexo which Trail expressed interest in, although nothing materialized from this. On March 16th, 2018, Trail revealed that the role of Trojan for this series would be replaced with an original character originating from his Blazer Comics series, Chronos, who would serve as an anti-villain in the series' storyline.

After further work did not continue on the series, on November 9th, 2018, Trail chose to cancel his plans for the series at that time as he began re-evaluating his direction for it and The LEGO Blazer Movie franchise after further developing plans for the sequel to The LEGO Blazer Movie as The LEGO Blazer Movie 2: Broken Dimensions (2021) that was set to have it feature an apocalyptic future created by Lord Blox, although Trail parted from this later on ahead of its' official announcement, with Trojan mainly being sidelined and ultimately removed from future installments as a result of these changes to focus on alternate universes and dimensions rather than time-traveling for those films. On November 16th, 2018, Trail began to continue work on the series without connections to The LEGO Blazer Movie and instead announced that it was moving forward as a standalone animated series featuring the characters Trail 101 and Doctor Flare, while the other apocalyptic-based characters and Chronos were written out of the series as its premiere was delayed to an unspecified date in 2020 and was moved to be broadcast on Frick TV. Despite these changes, Trail had chosen to cancel the series again on November 29th, 2018, after he decided that his current direction for the series had then became quite similar to his plans for The LEGO Blazer Movie franchise with the post-apocalyptic elements that were later toned down in those films. On February 23rd, 2019, Trail re-purposed Doctor Flare for his television series The Clone Masters to continue using that character outside of this series.

Revised standalone work and expansion[]

On August 27th, 2019, Trail revealed that he was developing an animated post-apocalyptic television series for Trail Blazer Studios that would serve as a revival of one of his prior series from the company, that being On the Trail after he had refined interest in the post-apocalyptic setting and its potential. On December 8th, 2019, Trail announced during Trail Blazer Studios' Winter 2019 L16 Expo panel that the series had been revived as a standalone production under a new direction revolving around Doctor Flare and Trail 101 as a robot amid the return of an old invention designed by Flare, and revealed that the premiere was set for Inferno Scope in September of 2022, and on December 11th, 2019, during Imagination Entertainment's Winter 2019 L16 Expo panel, Trail announced that the interpretation of the Doctor Flare character in The Clone Masters had been renamed to Professor Arthur Schmitz as to avoid interferences with this series. On February 6th, 2020, Trail incorporated an assassin character into this series after conceiving additional plot points for it, and on May 12th, 2020, Trail revealed the premiere and conclusion dates for the series to be September 2nd, 2022, and November 4th, 2022, respectively.

On August 15th, 2020, Trail established the assassin character as a female named Zarnya and the old invention of Flare's as Teknarius, while he had also set the real name for Doctor Flare as "Doctor Ezekiel Herman Flarden", re-incorporated Chronos into the series as Teknarius' controller, and established further elements of the storyline, including the Apokalypticore planet as the primary setting for the series along with a robotic Manticore that shares its name, which was coined by Red Shogun after Trail informed him of the intended architecture design of it. At this time, Trail also began considering to rename Trail 101 to a more original name that would fit tonally better with the series' direction and not be similar to his prior counterpart, and he had chosen on August 17th, 2020, to name the character Inciner-8-tor while the series was set to be re-titled without the use of "Trail", and it was announced as On the Vestige on August 18th, 2020, effectively removing any content creator and user-based elements from the series to continue with the original and differing direction. Along with the confirmation of the revised title and logo, Trail also showcased the series' title card with it. The voice cast was assembled by then to consist of Chris Diamantopoulos, Jonathan Banks, Audrey Wasilewski, Chris Parnell, and Lex Lang voicing Inciner-8-tor, Doctor Flare, Zarnya, Teknarius, and Chronos, respectively. Trail revealed that the first episode was titled Tremor with Fury on August 27th, 2020, and began developing ideas for a spin-off prequel television series as Edge of the Reaping, and on August 30th, 2020, Trail decided that On the Vestige had the potential to launch a grouping of similarly-styled series set in different intersected timelines that would have two follow-ups. Trail revealed the spin-off series and his intentions during the Big Ideas Event for the Trail Blazer Experience presentation on September 4th, 2019, along with that series' plot and its own logo and title card.

Trail revealed the Apokalypticore planet and Manticore character on September 13th, 2020, with Keith David cast in the character's role, along with the castings of America Ferrera, Hugh Laurie, Kristen Wiig, Steve Agee, Taika Waititi, James Earl Jones, Frank Welker as Dieselena, Sar-Gently, Tendra, Flinternest, BOLT-Z, Neptarian, and NUT-Z, respectively, and the inclusion of the Oceanitopia planet and further plot details revolving around those characters that he had conceived with additional concepts.

Trivia[]

  • The television series is influenced by aspects from Star Wars (1977), Tron: Legacy (2010), Rick and Morty (2013-present), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Westworld (2016-present), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019), and Tenet (2020) for its use of space-based and robotic science-fiction technologies paired in an apocalyptic Western setting along with its bright color palettes and dark undertones which are attributed towards the Raygun Gothic architecture and the science fiction Western and planetary romance genres, character developments, themes, concepts, and animation and visual styles, of which has been described as a "technological psychedelia". Trail also compared the production and refined approach for the series to that of Matt Reeves' DC Films-produced film The Batman (2021) and how it was originally developed as a spin-off of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) before it became a standalone story with expansions to it, with Trail noting that this series' intended grouping of series, including the spin-off Edge of the Reaping and follow-ups, was inspired by the intended trilogy for The Batman and its prequel series.
  • The television series' original title On the Trail was chosen by Trailblazer101 to convey the main characters following a path of clues to answer their questions in an apocalyptic world while depicting the setting through the initial logo, although, after Trail chose to de-emphasize the user-based elements of the series, he chose to re-title it to On the Vestige, as "vestige" means the smallest quantity, trace, mark, or visible sign left by something (such as an ancient city or a condition or practice) vanished or lost, which he felt conveyed the concepts of lost time in the past with the apocalyptic crisis at hand for the plot. Trail also chose to design a title card for the series under that title, which was modeled after ray beams from futuristic guns that would be featured in the series with the sun as the background of the apocalyptic world.
  • The television series is featured in the video game FANDOM Kombat from iNinjago Studios, with Inciner-8-tor being a playable fighter in it.
