Deadpool's Day Off is a 2017 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, distributed by 20th Century Fox. The film was directed by Tim Miller from a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role alongside Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapičić. In Deadpool's Day Off, Wade Wilson takes a day off from being the antihero Deadpool to spend a little "fun" through the streets, or bridges, of New York City with his best friends.
In New York City, near the end of the year, antihero Deadpool fakes sickness to stay home. Throughout the film, Deadpool frequently breaks the fourth wall to talk about his friends and give the audience advice on how to skip being an antihero. His parents believe him, though his sister Margaret, is not convinced, and neither is Ajax of Weapon X, who suspects Deadpool is being truant again and commits to catching him. Deadpool convinces his friend Colossus, who believes he really is absent due to illness, to help get Deadpools' girlfriend Negasonic Teenage Warhead out of school by reporting that her grandmother has died. To trick Ajax, Deadpool sways Colossus to let them use his father's prized Taxi to collect Negasonic. Colossus is dismayed when Deadpool continues to use the car to drive them into downtown New York City to spend the day, but Deadpool promises they will return it as it was.
The trio leave the car with parking garage attendants who immediately take the car for a joy ride after they leave. Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic sightsee around the city, including the Museum of the Arts, Empire State Building, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, and Yankees Stadium, while narrowly dodging sight by Mr. Wilson. Colossus remains disinterested, and Deadpool attempts to cheer him up by impromptu joining a parade float during the Von Steuben Day parade and lip-syncing Wayne Newton's cover of "Danke Schoen", as well as a rendition of The Beatles' "Twist and Shout" that excites the gathered crowds.
Meanwhile, Ajax investigates the Deadpool home to try to prove Deadpools' truancy, getting into several pratfalls. At the same time, Margaret, frustrated that the entire school believes Deadpool has come down with a deathly illness, skips class and returns home to confront him, only to hear someone (Ajax) outside trying to break-in. Ajax flees after she calls the police; when they arrive, they arrest her for filing a false report, and contact her mother to collect her. While waiting, she meets a juvenile delinquent who dealt drugs, who advises her not to worry so much about Deadpool, and talk to Deadpool about her feelings. Mrs. Wilson arrives at the station, upset about having to forgo a house sale, only to find Margaret kissing the drug dealer, infuriating her more.
Deadpool and his friends collect the Taxi and depart for home, but shortly discover many miles have been added to the odometer, and Colossus becomes catatonic. Back at Colossus' garage, Deadpool sets the car on blocks and runs it in reverse to try to take miles off the odometer without success. Colossus finally snaps, and lets out his anger against his controlling father by repeatedly kicking the car. This causes it to fall off the blocks and race in reverse through the back of the garage and into the ravine below. Deadpool offers to take the blame, but Colossus asserts he will stand up against his father.
Deadpool returns Negasonic home and realizes his parents are due home soon. As he races on foot through the neighborhood, he is nearly hit by Margaret driving their mother home. She speeds off trying to beat Deadpool home. Deadpool makes it home first, to find Ajax waiting for him outside. Margaret races into the house as their mother talks to their father about her behavior today. Deadpool discovers Ajax threatening Deadpool, and has a change of heart (thanks to the drug dealer); she tells him that she was just helping to return Deadpool from the hospital, and shows Ajax his wallet that she had found from his earlier break-in attempts. While Deadpool thanks Margaret and rushes back to his bedroom to greet his parents while feigning his waning illness, Ajax is attacked by the dog, in retaliation for knocking him out earlier. As they leave, Deadpool reminds the audience, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
The crying, defeated Ajax heads home and is picked up by a taxi, further humiliated by the students. In a post-credits scene, Deadpool emerges from his room, telling the audience that "It's over" and to "go home", only for an end-credits scene to show Ajax talking to a shadowy figure of his failing, with the shadowy figure stabbing him in the chest, telling him to "Try again when you're ready" and "if you fail again, don't return".
